Trek
Who could fail to be inspired by Lance Armstrong’s 7 times Tour de France winning Trek OCLV road bike?
Trek’s top of the range carbon fibre frames have been an intense object of desire for competition and leisure riders alike.
OCLV is Trek proprietary carbon fibre technology :
 |
OC = "Optimum Compaction", the process of densely compressing layers of multi directional
carbon fibre to maximise strength and minimize weight |
 |
LV = "Low Void" – minimizing voids (weak spots) in carbon structures |
Trek’s OCLV process yields less than 1% voids to create a structure so strong it exceeds
even aerospace standards.
Year on year, the product improves and this year the Madone series, having been released from the design limitations imposed by a certain Mr A, has been redesigned from scratch bottom, with total emphasis on efficiency and comfort. The result is really rather amazing and it looks beautiful as well. No surprise really, as the best designs tend to be a synthesis of function and form
There are three geometries in the range:
- Pro fit, for the all out racer
- Performance fit, with a longer headtube for a more upright position, pace the Pilot models of last year
- WSD fit, specifically designed for women
They all go like the clappers, and are comfortable enough to spend the whole day in the saddle.
These bikes are pretty much unbeatable anywhere!
The aluminium and alu/carbon range has been redesigned along the lines of the Madone Performance fit.
The starter model, the 1.2 has clearance for guards and rack mounts. The rest just have the slightly longer headtube, giving a more forgiving ride for the lower back, and the occasional glimpse of the countryside as it flashes by.
What else is there?

Aluminium still rules the roost for fantastic value frames, Trek’s proprietary alu frames in Alpha SL and Alpha SLR range from entry level to race
level so you can choose the bike best suited to your pocket |
 |
Carbon forks and stays are added as you go up the range for improved performance |
