To make the final decision, you should come in and talk to our team of experts. But in the mean time, you should bear in mind...
- How much you can spend...
Much below £300 won't get you a bike that will perform adequately and not land you with maintenance bills once you start using it seriously.

Are you:
Also see the Bike size FAQ for a sizing guide.
- The terrain you want to cycle on...
- Track and Fixed Gear ('Fixie') bikes work on cycle tracks like the Manchester Velodrome, as well as the flatter bits of inner-city Manchester
- Road Racing bikes work well on good roads and where speed is your main consideration
- Hybrids and Fixed-frame Mountain bikes work well on pot-holed city roads and off-road paths
- Full Suspenson bikes work on wilder off-road terrain (but
beware, if you only use these for road commuting, then you may find yourself doing more work cycling up and down than forwards on these!)
- Other issues...
- if part of your journey involves cars, busses, planes, trains, or you have limited storage space, then a Folding Bike will come in handy
- if you want to carry big loads, then a Bike Trailer or a Surly Big Dummy bike or a may be called for
- If you feel learning bicycle balance might be a skill too far, then a Tricycle may be the answer.
- If you find cycling all a bit too much like hard work, than a Power assist bike may be required
