Bicycle Doctors : Alexx, James, Rob, Robbie, Mo, Rich, Ben, Huw

Rich
Rich comes with a lifetime's worth of biking passion. An accomplished all rounder who’s into mountain biking, long distance commuting, longer training rides and epic off piste desert touring in North Africa, usually on a Surly with just one gear. Rich is a regular participant in 24 hour mountain bike racing and frequents the challenging trails of the Sierra Nevada mountain range (and Yorkshire Dales) with a loose anarchist collective of similarly obsessive bikey mates. Far too fit for his own good, he knows the Peak trails like the back of his hand and is always available to advise on the gnarliest routes and best cafes! An obsessive need to follow the constant upgrade and testing trail means his product knowledge is vast and makes the rest of the old duffers at Bike Doc look positively Miss Marple-ish, whoever she is... picture of Rich
Mo
Mo has been at Bike Doc since 1985. Having started as a youthful bike tinkerer one day a week, he gradually amassed a legendary store of bicycle knowledge, and increased his commitment until he became full time and a full member.
His bike use is mainly commuting, though he looks forward to being released from family duties enough to get out touring again. He has also been seen doing some very silly things on a mountain bike in his time.
His patience, good humour and encyclopaedic bike knowledge are greatly appreciated by co-workers and customers alike.

Robbie
Robbie has been propping up the counter since 1983 and is one of the founder members of the Bicycle Doctor Co-operative. In 1999 Robbie successfully completed the Paris-Brest-Paris. This is a gruelling Audax event held every four years. Since then he has done it twice more in 2003 and 2007. Entrants have to ride 1200km within 90 hours. This has to include all stops - sleep induced or otherwise. They also have to have successfully completed other Audax events to qualify for the Paris-Brest-Paris (or PBP). Check out the audax site for more information on these kinds of events. Robbie is also a track rider, a skill he learned in his youth. The training and endurance have paid off and we're proud to say that in 1999, 2001, 2005 and 2007, Robbie won the Veterans' Cup for the ACT Track League. Click here for more information about track leagues in Manchester. Robbie is also proud to have ridden the entire Tour-de-France route three days ahead of the tour in 1985. He did this with ex-England footballer Geoff Thomas to help him raise money for Leukaemia research. He also enters some time trials and most years he enjoys touring around the Alps or Pyrenees. Rock on Robbie.

Huw
Having decided after a rigorous year at Bicycle Doctor that he needed to express his young and irresponsible side, Huw has decided to make a life not wholly tied to the Bike Doc apron strings, and branch out into bicycle transport, using Burroughs 8 Freights to tote goods round Manchester. We are delighted that he is going to continue as a part timer. Huw
Alexx M Wilson
Cycling has always been an activity that Alexx has been interested in. After studying in Swansea and exploring the Welsh Valleys on a number of different bikes and surfaces, Alexx was hooked. For his final year of studying, he wrote a dissertation about Societies' attitudes towards cycling in the urban environment. A firm believer that cycling should be a prominent mode of transport in the cities of the UK. After a long stretch in Wales, a holiday was much needed and two weeks riding the dusty coastal and mountain trails of Portugal was fantastic. Since moving back to Manchester the country lanes of Cheshire and the Peaks are slowly becoming more familiar. Working at the Bicycle Doctor was the next logical step in a career focused on cycling. alexx
Benjamin Jones
Ben enjoys mountain biking and road cycling. He has mostly ridden in the North West especially the Lake District and around Greater Manchester. His favourite type of riding involves fast trails, steep descents and regular stops to enjoy the view. Ben lived and worked in Ambleside for most of a year and spent his spare time exploring the surrounding mountains on his own and with friends. After moving back to Manchester, he returned to regular routes on Chorlton meadows, out into Cheshire and occasional day trips further afield. Having recently joined the Bicycle Doctor, team Ben is looking forward to a long and enjoyable time working at the shop. Ben
James Tresman
James is the shops resident BMXer and races for Manchester BMX Club, who are based near the shop at Platt Fields Park. As well as competing in regional, national and European events, James is assistant editor of Fastlane BMX Magazine. After a decade playing American Football and a stint as a secondary school history teacher, James returned to his main passion, BMX cycling. With a suitably extrovert hairstyle, a fine tuned sense of sarcasm and a love of bikes James is at home amongst the other Bicycle Doctors. He can often be found looking through bike catalogues, planning his next purchase. James Tresman
Guy
Guy is prabably the longest active Bicycle Doctor customer and frequently uses their services to mainltain his unicycle, bicycles, tandem and recumbent trike, which he uses to commute and joy ride round the Cheshire countryside. He has been the Bicycle Doctor webmaster for some years – while not developing websites for: Guy and Chinghoih Lancaster on a tandem
