We’ve been selling and repairing all kinds of bikes at our shop in Rusholme South Manchester, for over 35 years, and have a wide range of knowledge and experience as a result. We believe that a bike shop should be a pleasure to visit, whatever kind of cyclist you are, or plan to become. Service with a smile, that “old-fashioned” way of doing things, is as important to us as knowing what we are talking about.
Bicycle Doctor is a bit different from bike shops and other businesses you may be used to; we’re proud to be a Workers’ Co-op which means the workers are the bosses and we share the running of the shop. Bicycle Doctor staff are all equal; “same pay, same say.” Certain Co-ops have many branches and a hierarchical system of employment with uneven pay between staff. This contradicts the ethos of a grassroots Co-op like ours and has no advantage to the workers at the bottom of the pyramid. There’s only one thing that could make it fairer in the shop… if Mo was less kettle-shy!
In the 35 years, Bicycle Doctor has been in business, we’ve never felt this way of doing things has left us at a disadvantage. We are a happy bunch, and every one of us really cares about the shop. That’s why when you buy from us you can be sure we’ll do our best to give you excellent service, from choosing the right bike for your needs to sizing it correctly. Read more about our team here.
Mo has been at Bike Doc since 1985. Having started as a youthful bike tinkerer one day a week, he gradually amassed a legendary store of bicycle knowledge and increased his commitment until he became full time and a full member. His bike use is mainly commuting. He has also been seen doing some very silly things on a mountain bike in his time. His patience, good humour, and encyclopedic bike knowledge are greatly appreciated by co-workers and customers alike.
Ed is a keen roadie and has done the odd triathlon and sportives in his spare time. When not on the road he is often found in the workshop cleaning his bikes. Around town you'll see him abroad his trusty Surly Chrosscheck... And sometimes even his titanium Brompton!
Hollie has ridden and fixed all manner of bikes and has a collection of super cool components and frames. Her custom built tangerine orange Surly Cross-Check has been turning heads recently. With a coffee to hand, Hollie loves a technical challenge in the workshop and will treat your bike like it’s her own.
Lewis has been riding and crashing bikes for years, and loves taking his Surly touring rig around the Peak and Dales. Often seen manning the counter or the kettle, he’ll fit an inner tube in the twinkling of an eye.
Adrian believes you can never have too many bikes and has road, touring and mountain machines in his stable. When he’s not lovingly putting together or fixing your pride and joy, he can often be seen flying around the Peaks on his Whyte hard-tail. He doesn’t wear waterproofs when the Manchester weather turns rough, but he knows his way around a spanner so we think he’s alright.
Dave has raced Mountain Bikes, competed in time trials and even done the odd Cyclo-cross race! His mechanical skills are his greatest strength though, as he’s worked on pretty much every type and brand of bicycle available. With a dry sense of humour and a fondness for coffee, Dave is never happier than when he’s fixing something that at first seemed beyond repair.
